Abstract

The burning of rice straw affects the health and life of people, negatively affects the surrounding environment. To assess the current status of open burning of rice straw, the study established indicators based on the model PSR (pressure-current-response) and case studies in 3 communes: Tho Xuan commune (Dan Phuong), Dac So (Hoai Duc), Liep Tuyet (Quoc Oai). The results show that, most people choose to burn rice straw in the field after the harvest (49.52%), then sell the straw (23.82%) and let the straw decay (13.33%). People in the communes also expressed concern about the impact of burning straw on their lives and manufacturing activities. With the economic restructuring, raising people's awareness and applying scientific and technological achievements to agricultural production, it will help to reduce the burning of rice straw in the field in the study area.
